Navy assists Indian fishing boat in anguish to return home
Sri Lanka Navy assisted an Indian fishing boat in distress to return safely home on January 19 by providing the necessary food and fuel to reach the Indian shores. The 22-feet long “Dingy Tupe” Indian fishing boat having the Registration No. TN/07/FRPC/48 had no fuel and drifted into Sri Lanka waters. It reached the Madagal Coast in the Jaffna peninsula on January 19 with a four member team. They had left for fishing from Mallipattnam in Tamil Nadu on January 17 and are inhabitants of Mallipattnam and Nagapattnam in India.
The Naval personnel at SLNS Agbo in Madagal had hurried assistance to the fishing crew who were starving from the sea ordeal due to lack of food for days.
After providing food and necessary care to the fishermen, the boat was provided with fuel for the crew to return to Indian shores safely.
