Resilience: High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (K=0.8)Distribution : Indo-West Pacific: Three isolated populations: 1) southern Japan, Ryukyu Islands, and Taiwan; 2) Coral Sea including New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and eastern Australia; 3) Mauritius and Réunion in the western Indian Ocean. Has been photographed at Leadsman Shoal (Ref. 11228); also known from the Philippines.
Diagnosis : Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 13-14
Biology : Inhabits outer coral or rocky reefs; usually forms large aggregations in shallow waters e.g. in lagoons; feeding well above the bottom on zooplankton (Ref. 2334)
