Diagnosis : Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 15-16. Highly variable in color, and able to change quickly, relating to behavior. When feeding on plankton above reefs it is silvery green, and darkens when sheltering on the reefs and shows a banded pattern when guarding eggs in the Maldives (Ref. 48636).
Biology : Found in current-swept seaward reefs; occasionally found around lagoon patch reefs. Forms aggregations that feed on zooplankton (Ref. 9710). Minimum depth reported taken from Ref. 9710
